to join our team in Berlin.
About TMG Research
As a Berlin-based research organisation with a team in Nairobi, Kenya and research sites in Benin, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Madagascar and South Africa, TMG works on responsible governance and sustainability issues in the areas of sustainable management and responsible governance of land and oceans, food systems, and climate. As an organisation, TMG brings sound knowledge and practical experience in facilitating national, European, and international processes and is dedicated to the analysis and solution of new and complex challenges. TMG’s research projects are developed, conducted and evaluated jointly with actors from science, politics, the private sector and civil society.
In the Land Governance Team, TMG Research, together with partners, applies a rights-based approach to analyse and explore context-specific solutions to address land tenure insecurity. The topic of responsible land governance is addressed in several projects in Kenya, Malawi, Benin, Madagascar and India.
You will support the strategic development of a dedicated programme on climate and land tenure issues and the implementation of projects on securing land rights and identifying pathways to better integrate land tenure into the Rio Convention. You will work closely with the programme lead, coordinate with civil society organisations, government agencies and Rio Convention representatives to build alliances on land tenure and climate.
This work stream builds on TMG’s involvement in the negotiations of the two land tenure decisions of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). It is part of TMG’s Global Soil Week work programme on just transitions in land restoration, biodiversity protection and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Your tasks
Conduct research and analysis on land tenure issues and climate change.
Provide strategic guidance to develop a work program on tenure and climate.
Contribute to and lead the writing of different types of publications
Steer learning processes and stakeholder meetings to build alliances on tenure and climate and to position TMG Research in this field.
Support the Programme Lead in content processes and in coordination of implementing the Global Soil Week program.
Support the Programme Lead in project reporting.
Support the Programme Lead and other team members in further developing the work programme of TMG’s land governance team.

Your profile
At least a Master’s degree in social and political science, agricultural economy, development and international studies, geography, or a related field or equivalent vocational qualification
At least 3-5 years of experience working on land tenure issues and/or climate change adaptation and mitigation programs with a particular focus on global agendas, such as the Rio Conventions.
Experience working with diverse stakeholders, civil society organizations, and government agencies.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and project management skills.
A track-record in publication and report writing in the field of land rights, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Enthusiasm, flexibility, strong team-spirit and a commitment to working within a dynamic, transdisciplinary organisation
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; German and any language from our working regions is a plus.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible until 31 December 2024 with the prospect of contract extension. Preferred duty station is Berlin.
